Ukrainian-Canadian soprano Natalya Gennadi is establishing her operatic career in North America in a wide range of repertoire. Natalya caused a sensation when she stepped in at short notice in her debut in the leading role of Oksana G, Tapestry Opera’s harrowing tale about human trafficking. Her critically acclaimed performance of this world premiere got nominated for the prestigious Dora Mavor Award.

Describing Mimi in La Boheme with Highlands Opera Studio, Dawn Martens of Opera Canada wrote: “Natalya was a gorgeous Mimi; not only did she look the part of the consumptive heroine, she allowed her powerful voice to ebb and flow producing gorgeously rich tones in Act I and sweeter, melodic phrases in Act IV."

Natalya is a multimedia creator and resident artist with the 2022-2023 Civic Engagement Artist Residence at Pacific Opera Victoria. During the pandemic, she co-founded the HBD!Project with mezzo and educator Catharin Carew, which was well received and expanded internationally.

Natalya's notable achievements during the pandemic include portraying Adriana in a fully staged digital performance of Adriana Lecouvreur with VoiceBox:Opera in Concert. She also appeared in OperaBreaks cinematic videos produced by Domoney Artists. In recent years, she has taken on opera roles such as Violetta in La Traviata and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with Opera York, Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro with Southern Ontario Lyric Opera, and Mimi in La bohème with Brott Opera. She also covered the role of Tatiana in Eugene Onegin with Hawaii Opera Theater.

In 2022, Natalya performed in Tapestry Opera's summertime outdoor Box Concerts and collaborated as a guest artist with the Toronto Concert Orchestra for a concert of opera favorites. Her upcoming engagements include portraying the title role in Cherubini's Médée with Voicebox:Opera in Concert and making her debut with Pacific Opera Victoria as Gerhilde in Wagner's Die Walküre in 2023.

Natalya is a recipient of a REACH Development Grant from the Schevchenko Foundation and contributes to the field as a professional diction coach, particularly in Slavic music. She co-produced the successful online fundraising event "Art for Peace" through Opera in Reach, benefiting Ukraine, and featuring Canadian and international artists.
